Jimmy
Founder, American Directional Driller®
I relocated to Denver in 2008 to join Schlumberger as an MWD/LWD engineer, working rigs across 10 states and earning certifications in all MWD/LWD tools as well as Petrophysics. This foundation in measurements and formation evaluation led me to transition into directional drilling with Halliburton, where I became a certified expert in Applied Drilling Technology (ADT), managed a team of directional drillers as a coordinator, was granted 6 patents in drilling and measurements technologies, and advanced to project manager—where I played a key role in developing Halliburton's iCruise® intelligent rotary steerable system.
A standout achievement from my time as a directional driller was executing a near-perfect curve on a challenging triple sidetrack job near Aspen, Colorado, with three of the first four surveys out of the casing shoe landing within 0.02 degrees of dip.
After years of hands-on rig experience—from MWD/LWD telemetry to leading rotary steerable projects—I founded American Directional Driller® in Denver in 2018. Drawing directly from that field expertise, we provide practical tools and durable merch (like our 40' engineer-scale tapes and lease-ready tally books) alongside job-relevant certification courses in surveying, toolface control, curve planning, rotary steerables, and PDHs. Our goal is to equip directional drillers and related professionals with the resources to document their skills, advance their careers, and remain competitive in the industry.
Thankfully, I'm finally independent and can create content like this to serve the general marketplace.

What our Amazon Buyers say about us
Good strapping tape for the oilfield. Long enough for most tubulars you will encounter. It great for a directional driller. Strong recoil. If you keep it somewhat clean it’ll last a couple years. 2nd one I’ve had.
— Andrew P.
As a directional driller for over 15+ years now I have wanted a tape measure that is 40’ long. We measure BHA components and nothing normally is longer than 40’ so this one is fantastic for what I need it for.
— Chris G.
It's a great tape measure with everything you need with a 40' span. Enough said
— Brian T.
